Tome Topple and Christmas

So last year it felt like Christmas came late and people weren’t as into the spirit of it as I remember them being in the past. But this year is completely opposite. Everyone is decorating and revved up. My family, who normally doesn’t get their tree until the first or second weekend in December are getting it within the next few days. It kind of seems like everyone just needs that joy and kindness this year and I’m super happy about that.

I recently went to Marshall’s and spent WAY too much money on decorations. I promise I just went in for some sunglasses and left with a throw blanket, some pillows, candle, and mugs. And then I went and got some Christmas records. All that to say, I’m set and my room makes me so happy every time I walk into it.

Christmas comes with a feeling of coziness, which I love. It always makes me want to bundle myself up and read good books all weekend. And even though this started two days ago, I wanted to let you guys know about Tome Topple. It goes from November 18 to Dec 1 and the goal is to read as many tomes (books 500 pages or more) as you can within that time. Even one is an accomplishment.

It’s a really fun experience because it’s not really about reading as much as you can, but rather tackling those big books that are otherwise intimidating sitting on your shelf. It’s hosted by Sam from Thoughts on Tomes on YouTube and comes with 5 optional challenges to complete as well. No prizes, just a place to get started with ideas if you aren’t sure what to read.

  1. Read more than one tome
  2. Read a graphic novel
  3. Read a tome that’s part of a series
  4. Buddy read a tome
  5. Read an adult novel

I’ll be trying to read The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson, and if I get to it A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin.

I think this read-a-thon is a great way to sit down, relax, and enjoy the holiday season. Step away from the planning and the duties of finals and Christmas shopping and holiday planning and just enjoy your time.

What are you guys reading? Are you getting ready for Christmas?
