Hey all! Even though it’s the end of July, don’t stop relaxing now. I’ve picked my top reads for summer to take with you to the pool or read on a lazy Sunday.
I love winding down with a good book and I’ve selected a broad range of books so hopefully there’s something for everyone. I for one am going to try to get as much reading in as possible before the school year starts and I get busy with my last semester of college!!
For the fun summer read
Best for: by the poolside, at the beach, or when you just want something light.
The Selection
A dystopian Bachelor, this story follows a girl as she is chosen for a reality TV show for the prince to find a wife. It’s cheesy, but these are so addictive. If you like The Bachelor you’ll like these.
The Undomestic Goddess/Confessions of a Shopaholic
These books are perfect for 20 somethings wanting a light, relatable read about sometimes silly women who make mistakes but figure it out in the end.
Fangirl
This book is very relatable for those about to head to college. It’s cute and very interesting if you love reading and fandoms, specifically Harry Potter.
To get lost in another world
Best for: a lazy day and reading when you can’t sleep.
The Raven Boys
This is a great story about a group of friends and magic hidden in our world in a place that feels completely different and creates it’s own. The writing is beautiful and the characters are impossible not to care for.
The Final Empire
A political fantasy with a very unique magic system is a great introduction for those looking to get into high fantasy. These are a little slow to start but impossible to put down once you get into them.
For the one with hearts in their eyes
Best for: the ones in love, ones who love love, and a book to read before bed and on vacation
The Matchmaker
An intriguing story about a woman with a couple of problems, a new love and a returning love. This is a perfect summer read, but it’s more along the lines of Nicholas Sparks than laugh out loud funny.
The Problem with Forever
A good young adult read, this follows a girl who no longer talks and her love story. This is definitely a speedy read.
Last Chance Saloon
This is a witty romance that shows the importance of friendship and how they fit into your relationships and help along the way.
To never stop learning
Best for: days where you want to kick butt and take names or feel like taking care of your goals
The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts
This is an amazing book on figuring out what you require in a relationship, romantic or not, and how to make other people feel loved and cared for. It goes into the differences in the way people need to receive care.
Grace, Not Perfection: Embracing Simplicity, Celebrating Joy
If you are a perfectionist, this book is great to help you know how to give yourself a break and give yourself the love that is given to you by others. It’s an important read for any young woman.
Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
After reading this book you’ll be inspired to do whatever creative project you’ve been wanting to do. It shows the creative process and let’s you be okay with making mistakes or not finishing to get to the project that you will finish and make amazing.
Real life inspiration
Best for: a quick read, those who haven’t read in a while
The Magnolia Story
I love Fixer Upper and if you do too this is a great book to learn how it all started and also more about Chip and Jo.
Finding Gobi: The True story of a little dog and an incredible journey
This is an amazing, heartwarming story about a runner and a dog and what people will go through to keep them together.
I hope you’ve found something interesting for you! I’ve read all of these and highly recommend them. They’re all good for different reasons and different times. And even if you haven’t read a book in a while, find one that sparks your interest. You may be surprised how much you like to read when it’s not for school.
